As I reflect upon my 4 years with Camp Bob, I think of all the joy, memories, and friendships I’ve built through this endeavor. Looking back before I ever stepped onto the campgrounds, I was a wide eyed freshly graduated 18 year old who thought he knew everything about the world. On my way to Daytona for a daytrip my dear friend Kamryn asked us if we were interested in joining her to work a summer camp in North Carolina, and the rest is history.
In my first year, my experience with the campers, camp, and staff completely changed my perspectives on the world. Seeing the wide world the campers hail from and their ability to come together to form this beautiful experience we call Camp Bob for the Queen City is truly the root of my love. Every year I get to learn more and grow with this camp. I love seeing campers overcome their fears, make new friends, and genuinely appreciate the week they’re given with us.
Camp Bob will always hold a special place in my heart. I have long believed the value of my life is measured in the joy and memories I’m able to create, and I can confidently say Camp Bob for the Queen City has made me wealthy beyond imagination in that regard. From where I started to where I am now, Camp Bob has drastically changed the trajectory of my life. It has pushed me to pursue a career where I can give back to my community and a path that will allow me to continue creating joy.
As I look to the future and reflect on the past, I have seen a wide revolving door of both campers and staff that makes each experience so unique. I look back and see all the people who made the experience so special and facilitated every moment of joy, and I look towards the future and know it is so bright. Even when I can no longer be an active member in the duration of the camp, I know the foundation we have laid will continue to grow and flourish into something special. I do lament the fact that I will eventually have to leave this part of my life, but I am so excited for someone else to have the same opportunity to join the community I found.
Thank you Camp Bob. You will always have my heart,
